Mike the Headless Chicken

Mike the Headless Chicken of Fruita was a Wyandotte chicken that lived for 18 months after his head had been mostly cut off. The owner fed him with a mixture of milk and water via an eyedropper; he was also fed small grains of corn. Seen here sometime between May 1945 and October 1946, lived for 1½ years after a farmer cut his head off with an ax – but leaving his brain stem intact, which allowed him to live. You go mike!

Lauren DiCiocci

Lauren DiCiocci is a San Francisco based artist who’s work investigates the physical and tangible beauty of commonplace mass-produced media-objects. Most recently these things have been the newspaper, magazines, office papers and writing pads, plastic bags, 35 mm slides. The pieces shows in this post are titled “sewnnews” – a series which represent entire issues of The New York Times encased in hand-embroidered cotton muslin. Lauren selects a photograph from the paper; usually a strong image suggestive of power, leadership or communication; and embroiders the image onto the fabric.

Mini chairs

As I was talking about miniature houses in my previous post.  I feel a need to post these photos for you. This Japanese company, REAC sells  mini versions of mid century modern chairs. These chairs are just so cute.
